Gauging Interest

 Greetings true believers!

Yes. It has been a LONG time.

Life happened yet again and not just life, but on top of that... (if you've been living under a rock) COVID-19 happened.

We're still looking for developers who want to help see this project to completion.

We're also curious about interest in having a version of Flames of Eternity that can be installed onto the 3DS family of hardware.
Would this be something you'd like to enjoy?

~Share and enjoy!

  1. Glad to see this project isn't dead! It'd be interesting to see it on the 3DS, but couldn't that just be done through an emulator on the 3DS?

  2. I think you can find people but this platform might be limiting you, there are several youtubers that have covered the project and perhaps creating a buzz campaign working with a few youtubers that enjoyed the project will help get more of the people you need such as developers on board. I'd like to help out from an organizing stand point as I have experience in project management. Let's actually put something out gang

  3. contacting some youtubers might indeed be very beneficial

  9. While a 3DS version would definitely be nice, what I'd really like is an updated IPS file so we can play what you've made so far.

  11. Has any work on FoE been done since the last blog post, which was in June 3, 2020? It sounded like something was going to happen then. But if 1.5 years later it's still just an idea of getting things going again, that's disappointing. Well, I hope you make it happen even if that's the case.

  15. Hi. Could you improve the run animation for Glenn? All the regular CT characters have like 4 or 5 frames of animation for their running, while Glenn has only 2, and it looks really bad when he's moving. If he could be given the same number of movement animations as the rest of the CT characters, he'd fit in a lot better and it'd look great.

  16. Jesus F'n Christ who cares about 3DS. People can run an emulator on it. Just release the damn patch first ffs.

    1. There are many routes you could take with your comment, and you still choose the nasty one.
They're ASKING if there's any interest, it's not final.

Also peoples lives don't revolve around this project, so don't act like it owes you something.

  17. Has there been any updates lately? Instead of the 3DS, I would love to see this mod created for the PC version.

  18. I don't have talent as a programmer, but I have made 2 complete scripts for 2 CT remakes. I'd like to work with some programmers and get these going. I have been in the writing industry for quite some time, and have ghost-written for many works that people thoroughly enjoy. Not looking to profit, but rather honor my friend that introduced me to CT back in High School that passed away way before his time.

  19. i have to agree with most of the other posts that say we'd like an update to the SNES rom hack before a ds version. just my 2 cents :) love you guys and keep up the good work

  20. Hey there, I'm trying to play through the game but I'm stuck at the part when crono and magus come back to chronopolis, magus doesn't despawn properly which causes schala not to appear in the infirmary, which means in stuck. Can I get a helping hand?

    1. there are some playthorughs on youtube, maybe that could help?
zsnes is the preferred emulator to run this hack so that might be the issue too.
if youre not playing on zsnes you could load your save on zsnes and the get past where youre stuck and move your save back to whatever emu your using

  22. In my opinion if you want this project to go at full steam you need to leave this place... i agreed with the ideia of contacting youtubers to spread awareness (Do you still remember this old rom hack? its in development for more then 10 years!!) and leave this old blog, move to social media (Twitter might be a good choice) here you will only find people like me who happens to remember all of this and still checks for updates.

I know square at the time where really BS with rom hacks and lawsuits and keep all on a obscure blog post is the ideal but internet has long change since the old 2009's and your posts on vidyagames.com and to be honest no one uses blogspot anymore LOL

But happy to see you guys on board to this all this years later, you guys have my support!!!!

  23. I think creating a dedicated Discord channel would go a long ways to actually getting anything done, these blog posts feel so esoteric by today's standard. So what's all left to do anyways? No offense to whomever is 'in charge' here, but I think at this point a new project leader would need to take the reins, because procrastinating and giving false hopes is not going anywhere obviously. A project leader who can make some progress despite real life happening. I've since turned my CT attention to Chrono Trigger +, but like others would love to see this "completed".

    1. I agree. The current leader is like GradeAUnderA; all you ever hear from him is his yearly announcements of his "return", followed by silence until he announces it again next year. As much as I want to see this project completed, I haven't had much hope for it happening over the last 7 or 8 years.

    3. You're Gi Nattak behind Return of Dark Sorcerer? One of the best-ever done hacks for Final Fantasy VI. Also one of the most advanced in terms of going beyond the limitations.

  25. It's been so long, I did not realize this post happened! I would love to see this project finished, sadly I'm no developer. I wish you and the team that is assembled the best of luck. Discord and YouTube would probably help with hype, maybe even find some willing devs.

  26. I was wondering if you guys need someone to fix or build some sprites. i could give a hand if you think you want.

  27. i wish you would deleted ALL of crono's dialog. it just doesnt fit.

  28. I'm interested, what language is the game written in? Can I grab the latest stable to test and play around with?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Definitely interested in seeing it completed, but have no interest in a 3DS version. More work being done on the game is a far higher priority.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'd definitely be interested in an IPS patch for the DS version of the game/a 3DS version. Hopefully more information will be coming soon regarding this patch!

  31. I'm asking for an update for Christmas. In 1 hour and 10 minutes it'll be 1 year of radio silence :(

  32. Still no RC-8? Please stop asking if there is intrest in other things when you cant even release RC-8 after 6 years.

    ReplyDelete
  33. YES! This is awesome! I would love a 3DS version, don't listen to the haters lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. Still interested in an update hopefully you guys still believe in this but I had an awesome experience playing this version of the game.

  35. RC-7d was released in 2014. Move this over to a discord please where work and discussion can better flow.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Honestly Giro, this whole thing is really frustrating.

The past NINE years of this project have been filled with these giant gaps of silence followed by a vague promises of recommitment, only to AGAIN followed by another giant gap of silence before yet another vague statement is made. Nine whole years of this...

To put this in perspective, I played the LATEST version of this project on my school library's computer when I was in FOURTH GRADE, and now I'm going into college and this thing still hasn't budged an inch. The amount of clunky pathways, poor balance, dialogue typos, confusing writing, texture errors, and parts where the game just decides to softlock itself or return to the title screen for no reason is obscene. This project is FAR from finished and that's putting it lightly. There are huge oversights in this thing that span all the way back to the original CE hack release which could have been fixed in a matter of minutes (even with the outdated Temporal Flux), and yet nobody can do so because this hack is pretty much locked in your possession.

There are people who genuinely want to see this project done and are willing to work on it in their spare time. Even people who don't know jack about rom hacking can still be very helpful by playing and reporting bugs, issues, and oversights. Imagine what could have gotten done these past few years if people could have worked on the hack via a discord server. The fact that this and all the content you added since 2014 is effectively locked away on your hard drive is a tragedy.

This thing is one discord server away from being reignited. You can literally just dump everything you worked on after RC-D7 in a pinned post on that server and walk away from it forever (if you'd want that) and I guarantee that people will start working on it little by little. I mean people are still working on Chrono Trigger + so it's not like nobody can do it. At least something could feasibly get done within the next DECADE that way.

But if you do nothing, then this project will be yet another one of the abandoned game projects that litter the internet. With nearly a DECADE of nothing resembling progress, that idea that this is an abandoned project is already a reality.
And it's only getting deader than it already is.

When CE got the DMCA hammer and couldn't finish what they started, yourself and the rest of the FoE crew picked it back up and kept the dream alive. That needs to happen again.

No more promises of a big return only to be followed by silence.
I don't want to assume anything about you, but it's understandable if you no longer have the time or drive to work on such an old hobby of yours. People change and so do priorities, and you shouldn't feel obligated to appease a crowd of patient CT nerds who just want news on their favorite rom hack. Some things aren't meant to be a big part of your life forever.
With that in mind, it is still unfair to let the work you did on this project die along with your interest/time for it.

This project is a single post and discord server away from a resurrection.

  37. This project is dead. Someone else with the knowhow needs to just start something from scratch. Apply everything suggested here and it'll be done before these guys make another "update" post.

  41. The original author (ZeaLitY) of Crimson Echos was actually the one who claimed the game was 95%, so if Flames of Eternity was made from the skeleton of that version he spoke about, then RC7D would probably now be about 98% complete.
