RC-7D UNLEASHED!!

Greetings true believers!

No beating around the bush, or leading you on any longer... Here is the place for you to grab your own copy of Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity RC-7D!

Here's the change log:
  • Fixed numerous text-wrapping/line-spacing issues
  • Fixed music bug in Gato's exhibit
  • Adjusted scroll locks/fixed bad tiles in a number of rooms
  • Fixed some instances of events giving a different amount of gold than the text boxes claim
  • Changed text at various story points that made references to events that hadn't happened yet or had already ended
  • Schala and Magus now actually hug each other in 65mil
  • Added a savepoint to King's Chamber before fighting Dalton
  • Fixed a game ending bug that triggers if you lose to Dalton  in the Guardia King's Chamber
  • Added various PC-specific dialogue in some areas
  • Fixed a number of tester-reported bugs
  • Ayla no longer appears twice in Chronopolis when you add her to your party
  • Fixed various game-ending bugs (they're getting pretty obscure, thankfully)
  • Fixed payout amounts in shooting gallery
  • Changed music in all rooms in DBT to Undersea Palace

  1. The music still makes weird screeching and popping noises in accurate emulators like SNES9X and BSNES/Higan.
    Using ZSNES is okay (at least if you have a really old computer), but what if people want to play it on an actual console with a flashcart?

  2. on bnes when you beat the game and start game agin on the same saveslot it gets to the circus fair part then it turns blacks and cant go beyond that screen is this a know bug on Higan

  3. Using a program called SNESMod to convert my .IT music projects into .SPC files made me realize:
    The SNES' audio chip only has 58K of memory for storing samples (according to SNESMod's readme file), and the original Chrono Trigger songs were probably pushing that limit already. With this hack's swapped samples, some songs are going over the memory limitation (which ZSNES probably doesn't even know about).

I only heard of SNESMod about a week ago, and I started composing the song last month, so I wasn't keeping limitations in mind at all. Actually that's not the issue with these particular music pops/glitches - if the total sample size goes over the allocated amount of memory for any particular song, the game will simply freeze first thing when it tries to read the song data. The issue with this hack is that it has been expanded to 6MB (ExHiROM), and most emulators do not agree for some reason in the song department due to the particular music engine that Chrono Trigger uses (SPC700). I expanded my FF6 hack to 6MB in order to add a bunch of more songs, and I have the same issue sadly as they both share pretty much the same music engine. What I can't figure out though is why ZSNES does not share this issue like so many of the more "accurate" emulators, what allows it to read and play the songs correctly while others don't...and why can't the developers cure this for their newer more accurate emulators. Been trying to find a work-a-round for this issue for quite a while now to no avail.

    2. And furthermore, how come some songs work while other's experience these glitches...
      I thought too it might be due to the samples used, but after various tests it's not that, after having changed them all to waveform generated bit rate reductions, which should have cured the issue if that was the case.
      I noticed for instance, Secret of the Forest remains untouched in FoE, yet it is experiencing these pops I've noticed, so why is it picking on that song? What is it about expanding the ROM to 6mb that causes the music core to decide not to play some songs right, yet others play fine. I can't figure it out. It's nothing in the channel header, song location, or samples, so wtf is it? The music core is somewhat of a mystery still to this day, so who knows - but then how does ZSNES play them all perfect...?

    3. Sorry to post so much, but just wanted to say that I'm most likely wrong about the size of the ROM and the expansion being the culprit with these song issues. It does seem to be like the samples used, but still I'm not sure why songs like Secret of the Forest have song 'pops', since I'm pretty sure it uses all the same samples as the original... But in any event.

    4. ZSNES used to have problems running a number of games. There are dozens of hacks built-in to the program to compensate for its inaccuracy. There is probably such a hack built-in for Chrono Trigger.

  4. I'm sure this has been mentioned a billion times...but will Schala ever be a playable character? I know the idea existed as compensation for letting Ayla die, but was never implemented, thus making the decision pointless. It actually pissed me off the last time I played expecting to get Schala, but instead I couldn't even finish the side quests; I ended up having to hex edit Ayla back into my save game which caused many glitches.
    If Schala being a playable character is ultimately impossible, then I'd say either remove the option to let Ayla die since, in the end, it is pointless, and fill the gap with something more worthwhile.
    Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the shot at replayability, but there isn't any if the choice you make holds no purpose.

  9. I created a fix to add a flames of eternity title and a glen overworld sprite, would have perferred to email Midnight but since i cannot find an e-mail, here is an IPS that should work on any flames of eternity version to add a flames of eternity title screen and a glenn overworld sprite.

    2. It's nice, the overworld sprite. But I noticed he seems to walk with a limp. I'm not sure if this was intentional, to match up with his sprite who also walks with a noticeable limp.... He walks like he has a peg leg. I'd love to see this touched up for a future version because I don't remember Glenn getting his leg busted up or cut off in any CT timelines lol.. It wouldn't be too much work, I know somebody who could do it if needed.

  11. So I can't find an answer to this question or a better place to ask it, but will the flames of eternity patch work with the CT ds rom?

    1. It cannot and never will since the roms are in different formats and their are game differences such FMV,new menus,new sidequests etc. I assume midnight are using a game specific editor TF to edit the rom. Unfortunately you cannot edit a .NDS file with this editor.

  12. I encountered 2 interesting bugs during my playthrough:
    1) At one point in the game Magus became borderline OP. His Double tap was hitting for 8888 two times on each use (He was at 38 level). It occured first during the fight with Dalton in Guardia and stopped when each of the party's characters had to overcome their "trials" (Flame dungeon, according to NG+).
    2) When one of the Reptites from Xamoltan joined Chronopolis I've decided to pay another visit to the Xamoltan residing in pre-history. The game bugs at that moment and moves you back to Chapter 13 Animal persistence.

    1. I noticed (1) as well - even in the earlier versions of the game. I think I found it was linked to equipping Magus with an element-absorbing armor (not sure if it was element specific though). Sure was useful in completing the single character colosseum challenge!

  14. Two of robos double techs don't work, max cyclone and doublevbomb, so far those are the only two. Though a fix to this would be very much appreciated because the doublevbomb is one of the strongest double techs and one i would use alot

  15. Thanks for keeping the dream alive. Your work is more valuable than gold to fans of arguably one of the best games ever created.
    What can we expect in the next release, Sigh... I wish there was some way I could help with the project

  16. Is this project still going? The lack of any news or any kind of update leads me to think not, but that is a sad thought. I know we all have lives and things to do besides work on this game, but the lack of any kind of attention to what is being said here by whomever is in charge is rather concerning. Is it too much to ask to drop us a line now and then about the current state of any work on future versions or fixing up bugs etc. project managers. Not trying to come off rude or harsh just stating my thoughts.

    1. I agree. 8 months since the last update. C'mon man.
      At least the game is available to those who have not played it/still need a copy of it. All they have been adding is optional side missions, novelty story expansions, and bug fixes so there isn't a rush.

  17. Can someone help me? i cant figure how to finish the frogs sidequest in the hunting grounds ( i'm currently missing 3 frogs ), i've heard that if you knock the snake in the water you get 1, but i have no idea how to do it, and i cant figure where are the last 2 as well ( looked all over the place already.. )

  19. I'm using znes but the game keeps freezing when you first fight kashmir in the tunnel. I'm sure you guys have figured how to get around this or what else to use. Any help? thanks

  20. Use the epoch to do that entire part. I had to repeat the whole Kasmir Castle to surpass this game breaking bug. Or.. use older rom version, like R5 or R6, then save after and restore your updated RC8D rom. Although dunno if this 2nd method would break anything. I did 1st :)

  21. Not sure what issue I'm having, I'm using zSNES but I can't get past the very first screen. All I get is the dialogue box with Doan saying "Hey toma put that book down for a while" and none of the buttons will make the game proceed. It's just stuck on that one screen with that one text box. I've reloaded it several times and checked all the control settings, still nothing. There's probably a really stupid/obvious solution that I'm missing here. I've tried enter, space bar, WASD, etc.

  23. there are some bugs.....i have played the game since the emerald dream I and found that when we first go to porre the 2 agents are going hiwire they dont let you walk directly to the correct door and when we goto the top of that area to the door we have to the lower house's gate opens......ok the second one was when balthsar tells us about that flame thing that the king zeal touched it and disappear all the next coming chat dissapears......i dont really remember more but there were more of them.....i will tell u when i find them out
